Re: Let's See Those 4th Gens

    Hey Guys,

I'm kinda an "honorary member" because after 6 straight CTD Trucks I got this:

    A 2017 Ram 2500 4x4 Crew Laramie w/ a 6.4L HEMI.

First gasser ever. Thanks for having me.

    -Jay

Thanks. You're very kind. As you might have noticed I ordered this one so I was fortunate enough to pick and choose what I wanted. I wanted one that was "every bit the part Cummins" except for the drive train. For example, I got the 4.10 rear, limited slip, skid plate protection, tow hooks, roof marker light, etc... Not sure where this will go or how long I'll enjoy having one without a CTD -- but it's an interesting adventure.

The 66RFE transmission (same gears as the 68RFE but smaller torque converter and different case) is a huge improvement over the 545RFE I test drove back in 2011 with a 5.7 HEMI. This 66RFE being modeled after the 68 with firm shifts and locking up in the gears (not being a slippery mess like the 545RFE) makes this much more interesting than it used to be.

Still -- that being said -- The Cummins makes these trucks feel "light." You realize you're behind the wheel of a 7700 LB truck when it's a gasser. Just not the same.

    Thanks again!

    -Jay

Nice !! My first mod was a leveling kit with new tires/wheels. I think that is a given for any new truck. Have fun and take pics along the way, its amazing to see transformations from the beginning.
