    Cold Start with 12V Tune

So I fired up my cold truck this morning and it's been cooler out but not crazy cold. I fired up with the 12 valve tune loaded and it was a fairly rough start and she smoked like crazy. I then noticed when I was slowly driving out of my street that it was pouring out white smoke. I pulled away from a stop sign a little harder and the smoke stopped for a bit and then came back again so I turned it back to a normal tune and the smoke went away. Does anybody no if it's bad to cold start in the 12 valve tune? Or was it something to do with the lack of pilot injection casing the smoke? I'm not too concerned because the truck ran great the rest of the day, didn't feel any lack of power from a faulty injector or have anymore smoke.

That is normal on a cold start. The lack of pilot makes it do that. Won't hurt but just makes for a smoke show. Just wait till the engine warms before using the 12V and you won't see smoke.

Ray, don't you ever sleep? I was gonna say mine hammers and smokes also, so I let it warm up on a regular tune.

I have noticed this on mine also. It will do it with any rt tune you attempt to load before the alternator kicks in and brings the battery up to above a certain voltage threshold. 12.5 ish.every cold start.
For mine all that's needed to correct this is reload after 5 or 6 seconds at minimum runtime.

Makes me wonder if this could be addressed with a pilot injection when ambient temps are below a certain temp or maybe running the grid heater a little longer or more often.

    How cold are we talking?

Not cold at all. But when the batteries haven't seen a charge in a few hours is when I notice it

How'd you make the rig fire with the 12v tune enabled man? I have it set to every key on and everything but it just won't do it. I don't know if I set it up wrong or what. Could you please walk me through it???QUOTE]
