    Fuel Tanks

I was reading about a fuel gauge/fuel tank issue. I’ve run my truck until the needle is on E when I fill up it only takes 26-27 gallons. It’s a 31 gallon tank and I have never put more than 26-27 gallons in the tank?

Is this a calibration issue? Is it a programming issue making sure you always have a little fuel left?

    Re: Fuel Tanks

When I had my stock fuel tank, when empty I could only put in 25 gallons in a 35 gallon tank. Thats from the Full mark to the Empty mark. Plus if I capped it, the vapor space was another 3.5 gallons. Seems the vapor space was 10% of the rated capacity.

My after market main tank now is a 60 gallon tank, and I can put in 50 gallons from the Full to Empty marks, with a 6 gallon vapor space fill. That leaves me 10 gallons from the empty to vapors.

It is important that you don't loose suction with your lift pump, so I wouldn't worry about it much, unless you get really low. If you want more of a fill, and don't mind the time needed, cap it off. I cap it off everytime just before a long run for the extra mileage between fills.

In the future, give us the year in the message body.

The factory also has a "Fudge Factor" built into the gauge. It's designed to fool you so you don't run out.

It's really not good to run the tank that low with the stock lift pump. The pump depends on the fuel for cooling
