Those assigned to the maintenance department does the same. In field duty hands on experiences. When the year is over, they go back to the engineering group for assignment. They are well past the college text book knowledge only and have a good hands on practicable personal experience and are a way better well rounded engineer. Thus work time and material cost dropped, safety was improved and the fight between company and employees dropped to almost nil. Education is great, but hands on experience is as important.
    Good idea!

I didn't start out that way. If you recall, I lived on a Farm. As things broke, my dad would have things fixed. But realizing my ability, he started outfitting me. In a short time i was fixing the tractor engines, ie rings and bearings, and welding the machines, painting, mounting tires. making stuff was my favorite. I laugh. I used to make something for the farm, Pop would go to the red star tavern, and next thing I knew I have to make 2 or 3 more. After Nam, I went to NCE (Newark College of Engineering) and alas, here is the finished product. Lacks tact, polish, arrogant, stubborn, Aches and pains, YOu see it all. LOL

I use a 5 gallon bucket to drain- fits under the truck with 35's. My 2013 oil filter is just like my 5.9 - I drop this after draining the pan and have no mess! Only a quick bit on the hand from pulling the drain plug

I've had the Finger Touch Drain Valve from @Geno's Garage since my 2nd oil change. The 1st change told me there had to be a better way.

    Re: Maintenance, Oil change?

I will add another for the Fumoto valve. I also have them on everything I own.

On the truck I especially like it because I can drain the oil into last oil changes‘ empty gallon jugs

These help you get the filter out without making a mess, you can even pre-fill it when you go back in if you choose:

I posted a while back and was sincere in my offer. I collected a bunch of these little red caps from work.

Years later I found they fit the valve perfectly. If any of you have the hose extension and would like a cap to keep thre valve clean I'd be happy to send you one or 2.

    Just send a PM.

    Re: Maintenance, Oil change?

On the first oil change I install a HD magnetic drain plug from Geno's garage. The fluted filters from Mopar and Fleetguard are your best bet. There is a wrench that fits nicely over the flutes to brake them loose. You'll also want to buy the Lisle threaded funnel from your fill cap and there filter plug so you wont spill oil when fishing your filter out of the fender well.
