EGT Sensor Install Location - MM3

I wondered if it would be wrong to install an EGT probe in the downpipe after the turbo?

I have done all the reading and research on installing it on the collector before the turbo. I ask for a few reasons.

    1. All my tools are packed up and shipped to my new house, so what I have on hand is limited.

    2. There is already a probe/sensor with a spot to screw in the new EGT probe in the downpipe that I could use without drilling and tapping a new location in the exhaust manifold.

    How "wrong" would this be?

I mean, RAM uses this spot for an EGT probe from the factory.

If your talking about the senor in the down pipe at the end of the down pipe I would think the reading would be atleast 350* off if not more. Cummins probably knows the difference and can make changes to the ecm off of that in emission related stuff but I wouldn’t think it’s accurate if you want to monitor heat with more power. Plus it could be some type of metric thread and not standard npt. Are you getting the egr block off kit?

I was thinking the same thing, i would just add 200 degrees to whatever reading I was getting just to be safe. As for the threads....i don't know. I have a backup plan just in case I can't get it to work there. My buddy is an SAE Diesel tech and I may just bite the bullet and install it where it should go.

Big shout out to Clayton @Dude's Diesel Performance. He hooked me up a good deal on the kit and pointed me in the right direction.

So once I get this all installed and wired up, how do I get the EGT temp to display on the MM3. I have gone over all the gauge options and couldn't find anything. Will it auto populate when it gets plugged in?

Yep, just like that. Threw me for a loop for a minute when I plugged mine in and then couldn't find how to display it.
