    New to diesels

    Hi everyone!
I just got my 2017 Ram 2500 G56 this last fall. I'm looking to tune and delete this summer. Is there a big difference between a full turboback and just a DPF/SCR delete? And is there a way for a tuner to do just a delete tune with minimal extra Hp added? I've been researching a lot of tuned G56 trucks and the factory clutch seems to be the weak point. I'm not hard on the truck at all and just want the stock clutch to last as long as it can before i upgrade it. The most I tow is fourwheelers LOL. I'm leaning towards Double R and their mm3 but I really like my Edge CTS2. Also, when you delete, is it mandatory to take the EGR cooler off? Sorry, my last vehicles were gassers, trying to educate myself more on Diesels! thanks guys!

    Welcome to the forum!!!

Most tuning options now come with multiple power levels and shift on the fly tuning. You can have a low power tune for your everyday driving and still have the option to turn it up a bit if you want to. Most people one here have their truck tuned by Double R Diesel and for good reason. His tuning is clean and efficient and his customer service is second to none in the industry.

Delete tuning will disable the EGR so it stops flowing exhaust into the intake. Lots of folks remove the EGR hard parts after this but you not need to remove anything if you don't want to. My EGR has been sitting there doing nothing for almost 5 years and hasn't cause me any problems.

I used just a delete pipe when I did my truck. It was the simplest and cheapest route. Plus the rest of the exhaust was brand new and I couldn't justify spending the money to replace it with more pipe. The factory exhaust pipe is 4" and there is nothing in the section of pipe between the turbo and the canisters. There's no reason to go full turbo back unless you go to a 5" exhaust or if you want to get rid of the muffler/resonator and go full straight pipe. I'm sure you will get opinions on all the different possibilities. If you need a source for hard parts, check out @Dude's Diesel Performance. Clayton is on the forum alot and I have never once heard a complaint from one of his customers.

I hope this helps get you started. I know others will chime in too.

Welcome to the forum @AKram2500! I didn't want or need all the bells and whistles either, just some added power and a better running engine. Double R Diesel has the MM3 with a "Lite Option" tuning that includes a 30hp tow, 90 street and 150 performance. Like you, I still have my stock clutch and can not run the 90 and 150 tune, the clutch will slip. I went the 4" downpipe back route for the exhaust (found a sale for the same price as the delete pipes), but still have the egr cooler and valve in place for now, but of course it's deactivated. I second contacting Dudes, he's a great guy to work with. I know it's overwhelming at first and hope this helps with you decision.

Thanks for the welcome! I like it here so far! I read somewhere that the newer cummins don't have a cat in the downpipes anymore, is that true? I'm trying to keep this truck simple vs my old truck LOL.
