Hey guys,
I come from the world of the Powerstroke. The last Cummins I test drove was in the mid 90's and couldn't make 70 MPH. I understood that it could pull the Queen Mary across town at 30 MPH, but...
I have enjoyed my Ford trucks over the years, but as the 7.3 went to the way side the platform was riddled with engine problems and now disastrous design issues. The truck is, quite frankly, ugly and boxy. I have been drawn to the Ram truck for style and options and the seemingly endless use you can get out of one. I am essentially looking for the last vehicle I will purchase. I would use it for work, I travel around 30 miles one way to work, and at home hauling the landscaping materials, brush, and chopped wood etc... I admit I am here more as a fact finding mission for myself, to learn from what others are doing to help me decide if this is indeed the vehicle for my family.
I grew up around diesel engines on the farm and carried that into a career with the railroad as an engineer. I have always loved the diesel engine for it's power and general simplicity, though that is not so much the case anymore. I would like to learn about deleting, tuning for efficiency, and the modifications generally understood to lengthen the life of the powertrain.
So, with that I will be reading and probably not posting very much as I have nothing to say from an experience point of view. I will probably pose questions as they come to mind or seek clarification from others threads. I look forward to reading your posts. Thanks!
