    68RFE Question

Getting closer to buying my truck. Still trying to decide whether I want to go with a G56 or 68RFE.

I tried to do a bit of research on here before I asked about this, but didn't come across anything, but if there's a thread about it, maybe someone can direct me to it.

What I want to know is, if I put Ray's deleted tunes on a 68RFE, what trans upgrades would be recommended so that I could run the truck on the higher HP tunes?

I realize that both will need mods.

I already know what I'll need for a manual trans, but not sure what is required for an auto.

How much HP you want to run if you get an auto?

For now I’m not planning to add any mods other than the tune.

That may change later, but for now just the tunes.

I daily drive a 120hp tune and the stock trans handles it just fine since the tuning also ups the line pressure in the trans. Going above that and you will want an upgraded valve body, torque converter and likely a bunch of other internals like input shaft and flex plate.

Check out the @RevMax website, it has a tons of information on the 68RFE and top notch components to beef one up when needed.

    This is good info.

I run 120 tune as well and have not had any issues for the 15k miles I’ve been running his files.

There are several others with much higher mileage that are in same boat.

    Ok.

That gives me something to think about.

I’m just trying to look at the difference in pricing.

I would really like to get a manual, just because I think they’re so cool, but if I can buy the same truck with an auto and beef it up for the same or slightly less money than I would spend on a manual, then maybe that’s the way I’ll have to go.

If you think you will want a “fast” truck someday all the fast ones are autos!

I quit driving standards when I turned in my CDL and retired. When you get my age, it's slip on shoes and and stretchy belts. LOL
