    Remote start... good? bad?

So im just curious im seen a few trucks before with remote start on them, which is great for us northerners. But is it bad for a diesel because of having to wait for the "wait to start" before starting the truck? Or is there a remote start that factors that in before starting?

Factory remote start waits for the grid heater to cycle before actually starting the truck.

I have aftermarket alarms on both trucks with remote start and no grid heater. Mine have a 10sec delay before they start I've had both alarms for about 8 years now no issues.

I also have a 2-way Viper remote start with keyless entry. It takes a good 10 seconds before it will actually start. I have it run out here in Arizona with the A/C on for a good 5 mins before I get in, never had a problem.

Do all have a delay? Or what one would you recommend? I have a few months before itd really be needed. And what is the range?

Oh. . . . I have to say they are all about the same. Just make sure you check to see it has the delay built in. Allot of it depends on the install too.

I have a Compustar 5000 with a Drone piggy backed on it. The Compustar is good for about 1km ish from what I've tested and the 2way tells me it's running. The drone is an app on my iPhone that will start it as long as the truck has cell service. So no cell service I use the two way. Going to see if I can tie in a Webasto to the Drone also so I can start it with my phone too, LOL.

Another thing I love with the Drone is it has tracking... So if my truck gets jacked, I'm going to get it....

I just have a cheap prestige alarm. These are the 2 remotes it came with tells u lock/unlock when it's running if somebody hits it it will show a certain panel that was hit. Only distance I've checked was a 1/8 mile. Good enough me. LOL

It waits to start. Sometimes in the cold takes a while. I usually forget and wind up shutting it off bc im not sure if it went or not
