    Busted Spring

I have a busted rear spring. It's in a bad spot too. It's broken in the forward bushing eye. Weird!

Actually no. It's been broken for several years. If I twisted the truck a certain way it would creak real loud. I thought it was the sway bar. I kept looking and looking. One of the clues was the truck was a bit unstable with 10K hanging off the back. Toe curling unstable sometimes. I spotted the spring was rubbing the frame when I changed the fuel filters in May. The spring slid on the bushing. Several debates with my secret weapon TJ later, I bought a new bushing. Hard to find because of the RWD. The spring is different than the 4 X apparently. Nobody knows what the difference is! Then I was busy, figured it wasn't going to break loose. So Saturday, I got doped up with pain pills and started to drop the spring. That's when I saw the break on the wrap around the bushing. It's got just enough left to the bushing won't come out. Needless to say, I was rattled when I saw it. Thinking about all the things I have done over the last few years. . . .

In all the years I've been working on these beasts I have never saw anything like this. I bet I drove this truck 60K with it like this. That spring has been creaking since I got the truck 5 years ago. I almose heavily soiled my jeans when I saw this. The bushing was just sitting in the spring, completely detached from the truck. Someone could have been killed! I think about all stuff I've done and the loads I've moved. . .

So Dude. Count your blessings and be safe
