How to tell what (if any) programmer?

    Hello all.
Recently bought a 2011 Ram 3500 that has an edge insight cts2 monitor on the pillar and a knob on the console with 1-5 on it. Looking under the dash there is 2 things plugged into the obd plug. One goes up the side to the insight and the other goes over towards the console with the knob. I haven't had time to take the console apart and see if there is anything else there besides the knob. I haven't messed with much but from what i have I cant tell a difference when i turn the knob. The truck was a trade in at a local dealer so I dont have a way to ask the previous owner anything. Just wondering if anyone can tell me where and what to look for to figure out what i have. This is my first diesel pickup so i dont know anything about all this.
Thanks in advance if anyone can tell me anything

Sounds like a monitor and a 5 position switch. If you cant tell much difference then he probably took the tuner off when he traded the truck

That was my thinking as well. From everything I've read it seems like id be able to tell when i turn it up. Just dont know what to look for to be sure and haven't found anyone around local that knows what thay are doing to take it to. But hey, thanks for the reply!

I've never had this, but have friends that did. It depends as to what they installed. And mainly, did they remove it .. brought it back to stock .. 'before' they removed it.
Might need the dealer check it out .. or find a specialist to check.

Does the truck still have it's emissions system intact?

No it's been deleted. EGR and all that on the motor is gone and straight pipe from turbo back

I would try hooking the 5 position switch directly to the obd port. Sometimes those splitters make things goofy. If you still can't tell any difference between settings, I'm guessing the previous owner either downloaded a single delete tune, or the switch isn't working. You can overwrite that with a tuner of your choice, which I would do. If anything ever happens, you'll be sol without one.

Re: How to tell what (if any) programmer?

Sounds like an EFI Live CPS5 switch. My EFI setup on my 06 did not have a programmer box- it was just the switch hooked to OBDII pass through harness. If the switch has the numbers around it in theory 1 would be stock/tow tune and 5 would be max effort. If there are no numbers you can try and get a look at the back of the switch. Once the knob is turned a small led light will flash (1 time for tune one and 2 for tune 2 etc).

I would highly recommend trying to figure out who tuned it. The dealer should know who sold/traded it and should be willing to give a call to ask that question. I am sure the prior owner wouldn't mind answering either. As you know we love talking about our projects!

The truck is only as good as the tuning provided. If there are issues down the road it would be extremely helpful to know who tuned it so you can contact them for assistance.

If you do need to start from scratch then DRD all the way.

Keep us posted and welcome to the family!
