    Holset Turbo Advice

    03 with a CW351CE turbo.

I'm planning on rebuilding my turbo the end of the summer. I'll con @F350Cummins to help me.

Since I am not into performance, although @Double R Diesel LLC will probably have me adding a 2nd throttle spring. he's doing with the UDC tuning. I don't know squat about sizing these things. My Mods are in the signature. My target is MPG, as usual.

I was going to make it simple and buy a cartridge. I want to increase the volume of air, with not necessarily the pressure. I am looking at these:

Would someone please help me out on this? What about BAE? Any good?

Not sure how much machining will cost to upgrade your turbo, but it will probably be worth it for your fuel economy goals. All I know is that every time I upgraded turbos on my diesels they performed a lot better on fuel as well as having more torque on tap.

You could probably go with BAE's highest performance offering and with proper tuning it should perform a lot better on fuel. The more air you can get into your engine the better they run! You might also be able to do some porting around your waste gate to help it dump more exhaust when needed.

    Thanks Stu

I was planning on porting the turbo a little. I don't want to take too much off. Rounding the corners, matching the gaskets, maybe smoothing the inside. I could port the discharge flange on the manifold too.

I need to be careful there. Those cartridges have a billet turbo wheels.

Why not pick a month that is reasonable to be out in the driveway doing it. I did my brakes in January.....
