Perfect feedback, these are the answers I was looking for. Bobtipton, yes Sam's Gap is a bit spooky, also coming down saluda grade absolutely sucks with a load. Thanks for the input guys.

    Re: Heavy towing.

I have pulled that heavy of a load in my 97 Cummins with 19.5 Rims and tires all across the country had a 37’ triple axle fifth wheel toy hauler with on board generator Onan and all my worldly possessions and tools never had it weighed but I know empty my fifth wheel was at 14,000 empty and I easily had probably another 6,000 plus my truck so imagine I was right around 23,000 to 26,000 and pulled it rather easily unless going over mountains in Colorado and weight was never a problem

These are the two beasts that I rely on to take care of my family. I'm no stranger to loads. Just not sure I should task 26k ish lbs over a long trip. I keep my equipment well maintained. I guess I'm second guessing this trip.

    Thanks again for everyone's input.

A few miles yeah, but a couple hundred miles, I would play it safe and take the f550.
Alex is right. First of all, it sounds like you are exceeding the weight limits of the Single tires. 2nd, you'll be lacking cornering control for the lack of side wall resistance and amount of rubber on the road. Then you are going to go over mountains? You'd have to go very slow and will probably white knuckling the whole trip.

I'll tell ya. Alex knows I have tons of experience with this. I did 17K with an SRW and was scared the whole 200 miles. Never again. And that's with a rear HD sway bar and air bags. I was over grossly weight for my rig. Yeah the factory says it will do it. But they leave out the safety factors. There is no way you should do that trip.

So, here is a question. If you are a contract RV trailer tow-a-way worker(CDL required), would the DOT look you over for deleted emissions control equipment or am I just being paranoid?

I personally haven’t had them say anything about my truck being deleted but I think it depends where you are and what they are looking for.
