Re: Save your turbo for pennies

I’m don’t think you will throw a code from gutting the filter, I would think it would be from excess pressure if the filter gets saturated. You will get oil drips from time to time out of the hose but it’s better dripping onto the ground than going into the suction of the Turbo! When you buy the new filter element, go ahead and gut the spent filter and keep it on hand when you do end up deleting. 90% of the time, the warranty is going to be used for what you’re trying to prevent...damage from emissions bs!

Yeah I only drive about 8 miles to work and back. So I have an S10 pickup that I take to work. I only drive the Ram on the weekends. I bought it in June and it only has 2500 miles today. I traded in a 2011 tundra on my Ram that only had. 32K on it

Egg on my face...After reading different forums or the last 2 hours. I'm beginning to think rerouting the Blow by hose away from the intake is a possible problem. Now I'm worried about high crank case pressure blowing seals from lack of vacuum. But I got to think there is a high crank case pressure sensor? Right? Maybe I should return it to stock until I delete the truck...

Nice video. You might want to consider replacing the PVC cap. Most PVC's soften around 92C (197 F), decompose around 140 C, and melt at 160 C. I know the compressor side can get above 160 C, at least on full power runs in engine test cells.

If the plug softens and cracks or melts, you'll be pulling contaminants in. Whenever there's boost, that port is under vacuum, and it will be sucking. Might even suck part of the plug in if it gets soft enough.

If you remove some of the media from the CV filter, to the point it flows more freely, you won't have any CC pressure problems. There's a number of posts on how to "delete the CCV" out there.

BTW, since '07 the CV system contains both a built-in pre-separator called an impactor and a coalescing filter media (which you'd be deleting). The impactor removes large oil mist droplets and the coalescing filter media removes finer droplets. The blow-by flows through the impactor first, then through the coalescer. So even if you delete the CV media, you'll still have the impactor intact and functional. Before 2007, the impactor was the only oil mist separator on the engine (dating back to about 2002). Before '02 it was just a baffle and wire mesh, and lots of liquid oil carryover dripping on the ground, especially after the engine ages and the blow-by flow rate increases.

    I thought about that also.
@TITAN I left the barbed fitting in the intake tube and capped it off with this, 3/4" Heater bypass caps.

Re: Save your turbo for pennies

I have been reading so much about this subject and I have no clue what to do. Some say its the best thing to do and some is negative. I have read it needs vacuum, filter needs to be gutted/not gutted, its no harm the way it is, open vent could cause seal problems...... Maybe Mr. Ray @Double R Diesel could help us out with his experience.

The best setup for a stock turbo truck is to leave it all stock.

However if you run an open air setup you must gut the factory CCV filter inside the valve cover. Secondly once you go this route you'll want to run a vent hose toward the ground to prevent an oily mess over time. Those little filters that many install with a 90 degree hose do nothing more than soak up oil vapors and then drip all over your valve cover and manifold.
