    Why offset?

Ok, this might be heresy but I am curious.

Why put offset wheels on a truck?

I am sure it is a style thing for some folk but are there technical reasons to do so?

Given how the factory setups are, I add fender flairs to keep the crud off the side of my truck. If I put on offset wheels, I might need dually fenders all around

    Re: Why offset?

Hey bud! nothing wrong with the question at all! @Custom Offsets will have more in depth details but i will help where possible!

So it is there for not only looks but it does play a part when you have a wider stance for handling. Also on certain applications you will need spacers if you run bigger tires and certain lift kits. Instead of having that they make wheels with different offsets and backspacing. Plus when i imagine when you get into making custom wheels you have to do something to compensate for the awesome designs they come up with as well LOL.

Don't take any of this to heart as i am by far not a wheel guru haha.

Correct me if im wrong anyone!

    Re: Why offset?

I think most people do it for the style. Especially those that select rims with large negative offset. But going from the factory rim +44 or +56 to a rim that is +18 or +20 can help fit a larger tire and minimize rubbing.

For example I had 305/70s (34x12) on factory 17" polished rims (+44 offset I think) and I would rub control arms at full lock. Now I have aftermarket rims (+20 offset) and 35/12.50s and do not rub anywhere.

    It comes down to

helping fit bigger tires with no rubbing on steering components
Looks, whether it be minor offset, +24 wheels, to -100 16 wides that stick out almost completely outside of the wheel well!
It helps with running wider tires/sizes etc as well!

I’ve been reading a bit about wheel offset. I like the wider stance and I’m looking at a 2.5” leveling kit. Is -24 to -30 going to cause me a rubbing issue if I run 35” tires? 2016 Ram 3500.
