EGT Sensor Install Location - MM3

I have decided to install right at the collector of the exhaust manifold. A little extra work, but worth it for accuracy. I am about leave for a long trip, 4000+ miles with about 12500lb in tow so I want to be as accurate as possible

Just installed mine as well. Got it hooked up with the MM3 from Ray @DoubleRDiesel. Install was not too bad. Had a brand new bit and tap. If i had taken off the fender liner from the start, it would have taken half the time. I wouldn't have needed the 90 drill adapter either. If you plug in the EGT probe before powering up the MM3 it'll automatically show up as an option.

EDIT: I installed it in the exhaust manifold. I get around 850*F at 70mph not towing.

So did the install today. I had a friend help me pull off the wheel well liner and it was a snap from there. Just took my time with drilling and tapping. Hooked right up to the mm3. Big thanks to Clayton @Dude's Diesel Performance.

    Update:
Just towed my 5th from Oklahoma to New Mexico. Trailer weighs in at 12000lbs.
    Coolant temp: 208-212
    Oil temp: 210-220
    Trans temp: 178-188.
Now my EGT was around 1150-1250 all day with some spikes(up hill) and dips( down hill). As soon as I hit anything over 1250 I down shifted to 5th. (Tow haul mode all day) I was using DRD 30hp tow tune as well.
Are my EGTs high? I have been reading and researching and cant seem to find a common consensus on what is "normal".

Not horrible but I was told to keep them below 1000 especially long term hauling. Just curious what did you haul to Mexico?

    NO IT'S NOT A HEMI!

EGT's at 1250 are OK. You can go over that number a little bit, but don't stay up there.

The 6.7L Cummins Engine can handle the heat very well.

I am pulling my RV, we are heading up to Alaska. I went through New Mexico and then up through Utah.

I know its an old thread but I have a question. I started drilling my manifold where bajaben has his tapped in the photos. How deep do you have to go before you penetrate? I guess I might have drilled a hair higher than bajaben but I’m about a half inch in and it’s still solid metal. Should I just tap it and plug it and drill a little lower or keep drilling?
    Thanks
