Unplugging it will just disable it. The only way to really ensure it doesn't leak is to remove it and use the block off supplied in the kits

The only one I have seen and actually repaired started leaking at just over 100k. So it is not likely it will happen before but is possible. This truck was daily driven in normal conditions.

We've seen a few leak, but and all the trucks that leaked had over 100K on them.

I have mine unplugged and I made and put a plug cap on them. Way back when I was first tuned I was told to unplug them, and I have left it that way, its been almost 50K miles.

I ended up getting a kit for mine with re-route for cylinders 5&6. I am about to roll to 70k - Clayton over at Dudes Diesel is great to deal with and local for me! I figured I might as well since the truck isn't going anywhere anytime soon!

Unplugging the electrical connections would not have effect on the coolant leaking. Although the EGR cooler is not operating there is still coolant that is flowing through it. The kits allow the EGR to be removed and either just block off the coolant or allow it to be re-routed to the back of the head to cool cylinders 5&6. I have read that the coolant re-route is not needed for avg application. That being said I will be re-routing mine with the kit from Dudes Diesel....just need to get it installed!
