    Tow Ratings?

So all the new trucks are coming out with 31-32,000 tow ratings, and that's all well and good. But how do they even connect that? A quick google search confirmed my suspicions, and most goose necks max out at 30,000 lbs and not many 5th wheel hitch's go above 26,000. Or have we hit the limit and are we waiting for hitch manufactures to catch up?

Overloading a trailer by 1k or 2k pounds is far from uncommon.

1-2k lb overload is nothing. I know guys running 3 car haulers on their DRW trucks and have been for years...when the trucks weren't rated for 30k lb tow capacity. a 20k lb capacity hitch (because a few years back when these guys started, that was the standard), a 7k lb trailer and 3 trucks that weigh 6k lb each...well, that blows the 20k lb capacity out of the water. Not to mention, they are cruising down the highway at 30k lb GCWR when their only rated to be at 25k by the manufacturer! Not that I would say it's the best idea, but...

    Yes.

These guys are in CA, and as long as you pay to run at a certain weight, they don't care.

    Re: Tow Ratings?

Lets forget the DOT. I only checked a couple sites, but i was only able to find 1 "hitch" that had over a 30,000# capacity, and it wasn't even a hitch, it's a standard looking shank ball rated for more weight. (https://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-***...0_lbs_GTW.aspx) Has no-one made a hitch that can handle the weight yet?
