    Re: Good oil choice

my nickels worth;new on the site but 35 yrs of oil watching. i have used many snake oils and also have seen many used and sworn by drivers both big and small. i ve torn apart thousands of engines examining bearing wear ,cam wear and piston scuffing . the most likely culprit is fuel dilution ,in my opinion. turn up the pump add timing water injection it all adds up to wear and tear. but in my observations i can tell who keeps a close eye on the fluids and who maintains their 25 thousand dollar engine. those are the owners that dont use the 5 qts for 9.99 oil.( i dont want blood transfusions from a monkey either) they use top brands that are recommended and approved by the manufacturer.remember most are still flat tappet lifter engines with the need for specific additives ,that adds to more trouble as they are getting deleted from the oils.so in my opinion the least wear ive yet to see is from using synthetic blends in the 15-40 weights ..what brand you chose is your choice buy it and stick with it.as far as the new roller cam engines the verdicts still out the only ones ive witnessed are the mb big diesels that have roller failures.smaller dura motors have cam wear issues from too long of idling times.the crank whips the oil to lube the lobes so next time you wanna park and idle for a while hit the throttle or don't disable that fast idle up that's been installed by the factory.its there for good reason.

Is 15w40 too heavy for cold winters? This year expecting 10degree lows but next year could be negatives in or new place

I’d do 5-40 in those temps, but that’s just me.

You can run 5w-40 year round, I do, and it was -7 here. Doesn't hurt. @motosicky ... good write up.
