    Factory turbo blanket

Has anyone run a turbo blanket on the factory turbo. Is this something worth doing, or would it be bad for the turbo. Anything I’ve ever heard about these blankets is that they do nothing but good for aspects of a turbo diesel but I can’t find any info on running one with the stock turbo.

Anything to reduce radiance will increase flow and run cooler which will reduce lag and increase power and efficiency.
The only downside I can see is it being a sponge for oil, water, mud and possibly inducing rust especially on a VGT which is mounted low and exposed to the elements a bit more.

The only thing in the oil field that's for sure, is nothing is for sure.......

What @74Beeper said was correct. It actually protects the turbo if anything hits it, helps retain heat, reduces the cooling time period when you turn the engine off and with the added time cooling will protect the metal. If you run your truck hard pulling a load then shut the engine off as soon as you stop, it cools to fast and could cause cracks in the turbo metal by not letting the oil flow help drop the temp to a lower temp. All refineries use them for extreme high temp equipment as a normally excepted practice for a couple decades now.

Just as mentioned, is a collector for debris falling on it if the material is absorbent.

    Re: Factory turbo blanket

So it seems like it’s a pretty good idea to have it.

I don't know if it's really necessary. If you heat the turbo up in a hard pull, just let the truck idle for 5-10 min when you get to your destination.

I know the M11 Cummins I used to drive hade a blanket, never broke one of those, broke a couple on the old silver 92 Detroit’s that did not use a blanket. Maybe a correlation ? IDK.
