Talking Newest New Guy EVER... This Guy Right Here.... Hello From Arkansas

Brand new to the site..to cummins...and to diesels all together.... Long story short, I needed a tow rig and am a huge Mopar fan so naturally I looked for a cummins RAM. Only intended on a 5-6 trips a year truck but wanted something reliable (those trips will be to other states with Illinois being the most likely-I buy older manual machine tools and work on them for fun...yes I have a sickness!!). I decided on a 2nd gen 4x4 flatbed dually BUT by the time I found anything nice enough to feel comfortable the $$ was so close to a newer truck I couldn't make myself commit. During my search, I came across a really clean higher mileage 05 3500 dually 4x4 ST (plain Jane roll-up windows and all) with 250K miles and 48RE trans. Probably paid too much (9K) but I got tired of looking. Well... I had the truck for about a week when I noticed I couldn't quit smiling while driving it I LOVE the thing. Few months later one of the "feelers" I had out looking for a truck produced another hit on a 06 2500 4x4 auto with A LOT OF MILES (316K)!! But it is a Big Horn and everything works except needs a trans.. Got it for a good price (4K) and plan to build the trans myself (have built several 727s) do few other things for the fun and learning then sell the rig and maybe make a couple grand to put into my dually. Really looking forward to the journey.. Thanks for letting me be a part of the group and am excited about learning a thing or two along the way!!! BTW bought my first gooseneck trailer (36') at the same time.. That was really cool until it didn't fit in my driveway.. It now lives in my front yard (SMH)... THANKS AGAIN TO ALL.....

    to the forum @Dukedrifter

The '06 is a good year and should give you many more.
And 316k isn't that much for it if taken care of.

36' is a good trailer size. I've got a 36' and a 32' flatbed and the 36 is my fav . The 06 isn't terribly high mileage unless it was abused.
