    Oil

What's everyone running in there 6.7. Dealership just did a change and used royal purple synthetic. Previous owner used shell.

Looking for inputs. And if synthetic how long do you go before changing again.

    Re: Oil

Cummins been recommending full sync. oil since the mid 2000's. The recommend Valvoline Blue Full Sync. But if you select a quality oil, like ... Rotella, Amsoil and such you'll be fine. I'd recommend a quality oil manufacture. In Ohio I'd recommend at least a 5w-40 or a 0w-40 year round, you get cold in the winters. But the one thing I'd recommend is getting an oil sample at the end of the run to see what the specs are. Then, if your in you oil perimeter, you know your fine. If not, then it might be recommended to find another manufacture of oil. I did this and found my truck runs better with Rotella T6. But I know other diesel owners and they found they run better with a different brand.

As for mileage, most time the manual recommends if you run heavy, change the oil and filter every 7,500 miles, and if light most of the time you can hit 15,000 miles. Check your manual. The oil doesn't fail, it's the additives that eweaken and fail that hurts the engine. I have a friend that owns a year older than mine and her went 3 oil changes at 15k with samples and flund he was well within range, so he stays with that. Why change way before than needed and waste money ?

I listened to @AnOldBiker and when I changed my oil a couple weeks ago, I used Rotella T6. I plan on sending in a sample at the 7500 mile mark.

Excellent affordable product. That's what I use. It will last as long as many of the more expensive oils. I cange one a year.

Valvoline Premium Blue 15W40 is the only oil that I use and in 4 Cummins motors I probably have about 850,000 miles and never had one problem with this oil
