How much boost is everyone seeing ?

I recently deleted my truck, 5 inch Flo pro, 90hp DRD tune I could have sworn I was seeing around 34-35psi. Now I just installed AFE intercooler pipes to get rid of the dented pipe on the hot side and I did the cold side too just for the heck of it and a Shibby throttle valve delete. I just got on it a little and only saw 30-31psi. Am I losing boost somewhere or is it because it was 15 degrees when I was seeing 34-35psi and now its about 45degrees. IAT went up about 40 degrees compared to when it was really cold out. Ive never had a diesel truck before so idk how much the outside temp affects the boost level. The clamps on the silicone couplings are very tight and I was wondering if air could escape the couplings anyway.

Could be a slight leak but it may not be either.

You have to remember boost is actually a measure of air flow restriction. So when air is colder and more dense, boost will read higher due to a denser charge being compressed through the system. On the opposite side of things, bigger plumbing reduces restriction and can lower the boost reading.

Power is not increased with how much boost you make but rather how much air mass you can stuff in the engine.

Re: How much boost is everyone seeing ?

I got it up to 32psi before so I think it’s ok. But it sounds kind of like a supercharger now. Idk if that is boost leaking or because it has bigger pipes now.

Were you seeing the higher boost before or after loading the tune?

You don't need allot of boost to get more power. AND! By cleaning up your intake, you may have just made the truck run a bit leaner. Leaner means better burning and less soot. Cleaner exhaust means lower boost in most cases.

An example. I used to see 30+/- on my 03. I now run an MPG tune that is really sweet. I have more power, and less boost. I cruise on the flats at 65 MPH at 3 to 4 PSI now. But I am getting 25 highway. It's not lacking anything for power. My Max boost dropped off to around 22

You could make up a strong mix of dish detergent and water in a spray bottle. (Put the water in first, then the soap. Trust me) spray all your joints with the truck running and see if you get any bubbles. You may want to have a piece of cardboard handy to shield the breeze from the fan handy. If you can get it on fast idle, that would be better

    Just a thought.

The higher boost was before the intercooler pipes were changed but it also was about 10-15 degrees when I first did the tune. Now with the pipes and the temps in the 50s I saw 32psi so that’s probably ok but now it sounds like it has compound turbos or a roots supercharger when it really spools. Sort of like the video attached but it’s not as loud. I’m going to try the soap and water trick on the joints. I wasn’t to happy with the clamps that afe supplied I felt like they weren’t small enough. I had to tighten them out until the stud bottomed out. There’s no way the pipe would slip past the clamp and blow off but I don’t know if it is possible for boost to seep through. I ended up re using the stock clamps on the turbo outlet and both the intercooler inlet and outlet, but all the other joints have the afe clamps.

I sprayed the joints on high idle and didn’t see any bubbles. I don’t understand why it makes this loud sound. I’m having a hard time believing the sound changed that drastically because of these pipes. It only does it when it hits around 20 psi and up. It’s like a howling sound.
