EGT SENSOR INSTALL W/EGR COOLER IN PLACE.
Some of us less fortunate 4th Gen owners are unable to remove our EGR COOLERS because of extended warranty. Myself included, because if I go through all the trouble getting it off I dog on sure will never put it back.
So other than dropping the exhaust and turbo how can I drill through the exhaust manifold and retrieve the metal debris from going into the turbo.

Re: EGT SENSOR INSTALL W/EGR COOLER IN PLACE.
Just drill it slow and use a healthy amount of grease to catch shavings as you drill.
Start with a small pilot bit and them move to the full size. Use only light pressure and let the bit do the cutting.
Clean and replace the grease as chips start to build up. It's really not that bad.

I did one on my 06.
Go slow and increase drill bit size. Like was said, use grease and you will be fine.
Its easier then you think.

Re: EGT SENSOR INSTALL W/EGR COOLER IN PLACE.
So I finally installed the EGT sensor I entered through the down pipe allowing me to also get turbo temperatures coming off the turbo before I shut it down.

This was the most difficult tap to find metric.
By the way the down pipe is double wall so I drilled through both but the shank on the insert for the actual sensor is long enough to go through both.
I did remove the down pipe to drill it which made it very easy.

Now that's thinkin outside the box.... never seen one placed there before, will be interested to see what temps you get from that location vs the manifold or the EGR blockoff plate
Re: EGT SENSOR INSTALL W/EGR COOLER IN PLACE.
Running normal conditions 500 to 700 hauling pulling a grade 800 to 1500 my priority was to get a baseline on temps it’s been working great.

Re: EGT SENSOR INSTALL W/EGR COOLER IN PLACE.
I run between Las Vegas and Los Angeles most of the time and Texas occasionally still under 10k miles fully deleted and turned with hard parts still in place so I had to get creative to do the EGT sensor.

Nice work!!
I'm thinking of leaving my cooler in place too.
I wish I knew if it was OK to do so. I have 68K on the clock.
Again, nice work!!
