Transmission Failures..... I’m Seeing a Trend
I’m beginning to see a trend on social media lately. 68RFE owners who have trans tuning that keeps the converter locked between shifts are starting to have transmission failures..... This comes as no surprise to me. That converter unlocking between shifts is there for a reason and the proof is beginning to show.

Built ones or stock units? Or both?

I just put a stock TCM back on my 09. Was starting to feel some unhappy things. 45 miles with stock TCM back on and relearning
So far things are getting back to normal

Have I not been preaching this!? Locked shifts have their place...and it does feel great in the seat provided nothing breaks. Folks need to understand lock shifts can break stock parts and even billet parts too!
Actually we plan to offer locked shifts in the future BUT we will make sure the customer will understand the risk when we do.

It shouldn't make a difference but with the extreme cold temps that's when I started noticing things
Synthetic trans fluid is supposed to be good in this weather
Like anything though it will thicken up. I set some up in a glass tube in my barn. It was probably slightly warmer than sitting inside the aluminum transmission
After sitting over night @ -3 and windchill of -23 it was a thick paste the very slowly sludged out
So increased pressure inside the transmission in theory if it's trying to force that same fluid until it warms up and thins back out. Could easily lead to issues overworking or lack of fluid where needed

Totally agree! If you want to play you gotta pay. As soon as you start modifying your stuff and how it operates your risk of breaking increases. Some things increase that possibility significantly more than others.
And sign me up for locked shifts when they are available! [emoji3]
What would be super awesome is if you could real time transmission only parameters. Something like manually controlling lock up through the tuner instead of a switch. Or just switch between more or less aggressive shift options without a retune. Not sure how that would work with adaptive learning though.

I say the same thing about extreme shift kits

That's something that Spartan does on the Fords. Not real time tuning though. You can change from early or late lock
The Dodge and Fords are totally different transmissions though how they're controlled internally
