Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
I installed the MM3 tuner with Anarchy tunes and a 4" straight pipe exhaust about 1 month ago. And everything has been great for that month. Recently I decided to totally delete the EGR cooler and the throttle valve and now my truck won't start. It turns over but wont fire up.
In an attempt to diagnose the problem I returned the truck back to the stock tune file. It will start and run on the stock file but when I reload the Anarchy tune file it will not start.
I have double and triple checked my the MAP sensor and it's plugged in. Anarchy has sent me a new tune but I'm still having the same problem and they are saying it's not the tune, something else is wrong.
I really think it's a problem with the Anarchy tune since it will run on the stock file but not the Anarchy tune.
Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like it’s a bad tune to me. Hope you can get it fixed. I’m sure someone on here may have an answer for you. Keep us posted.

Thank you. I'm quickly becoming desperate! I don't know if I should take it to a mechanic or just buy tunes from @Double R Diesel.
I need my truck.

DRD is the best in my opinion. Best tuning, best customer service and stands behind his work! You can’t go wrong with Ray!

Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
Any codes or CEL? Check for soft codes. Voltage okay after trying to crank and not starting?
-
Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
I would try putting the throttle valve and/or egr actuator back under the hood and plug them in. If one of them lets the truck start, zip tie it out of the way until the tuning issue is resolved.

Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
1st problem I see is anarchy tunes, .I have them on my 09. They are crap, .I'd be very surprised if they help you without wanting to charge you extra
-
Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
The MM3 is showing this code P0646 low voltage detected at the clutch relay. And the truck just has the yellow check engine light on. But I'm not sure what a soft code is. The check engine light doesn't go away it just flashes 10 times and stays on. I've had a battery charger on the batteries to keep the voltage up.
-
Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
I hope they don't try to charge me. I just bought the tuner about a month ago.
-
Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
I tried that too. I plugged everything back in and still no satisfaction. I'm thinking it's gotta be some kind if sensor telling it not to start. But not sure if it's in the tune or the truck. I'm leaning to the tune because the truck will start on the stock tune.

Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
But it was running fine for a month? Did you have the egr items unplugged during that time or just unplugged them when you removed them? I assume when you flash back to stock and start it you havr all kinds of warning going off on the dash
-
Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
It sounds like you have double checked every plug and everything. Make sure there is no bare wire anywhere and that your battery connections are tight. I know you said they were on a battery charger but just make sure it has a good connection when trying to start.
This is terrible bud! I would have hoped that they would help you dig into it a little deeper vs just saying it's not their tune and leave you be....
Honestly you may be better off with DRD Tuning. I hate for you to spend the extra money but it will definitely be money well spent. The service he provides is second to none!

Yes it was running great for a month. Everything was plugged in until I deleted the egr and throttle valve. That was the only things I changed.

Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
May want to see if there is an ECM or software update. I know sometimes this plays a role.
-
Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
I cant see how a good running truck would just stop working after removing that stuff. You didnt reflash or any during the removal? Just removed the stuff and then a no start? Its got to be something your over looking under the hood. Can you post some pictures of those areas
-
Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
Hypothetically, if the Anarchy tune is good that would mean there has to be a problem with my truck itself. But my truck starts with the stock tune installed. It doesn't run very good but that would be expected running a the stock tune with a deleted exhaust, EGR and throttle valve right? Could I have messed up a sensor deleting the EGR and throttle valve somehow? Causing it to not start with the Anarchy tune installed? I don't think it would start at all if that was the case.
Anyways, Thank you all for your help.

No I didn't change anything. Just pulled my truck into the garage removed the EGR cooler and throttle valve controller, installed new block off plates and plugged the one connector back into the sensor that comes out of the side of the exhaust manifold on the passenger side. And it wont start. I will post some pics this afternoon when I get off work.

What year is your truck.... up until just a few months ago, to tune 16 and up you needed a separate head unit because there was not a "hack" yet.

Is there just 3 plugs hanging now from the deleted stuff?

It's a 2015 Ram 2500 Cummins. The MM3 tuner will unlock the ECM and flash it without the need for anything else.

There are 4 plugs unplugged after the EGR and throttle valve deletes. 1 from the throttle valve, 2 on the drivers side from the cross over EGR tube and 1 on the passenger side from the EGR valve thingy.
-
Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
Yes that's correct. I forgot about the sensor in the tube. You said it cranks but wont fire correct?

Here's a few pics. Can anyone please tell me what the last picture is of? It's located on the passenger side below the negative terminal of the battery. Is this the starter solenoid?

Im assuming you had the air filter tube connected when you tried to start?

Thanks for all your help ram hunter! I've tried to start it with the air intake tube on and off.

So the truck runs on a stock tune?

Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
Quick update. Anarchy has built me a new tune spacific to my truck using my VIN# and deletes to insure I have the correct tune. After installing this new tune my truck started! I took it on a short drive and it felt awesome. BUT WAIT... after parking and turning my truck off it again would not start. After trying to start it a few more times it will start sometimes and not start other times. Now it seems that I'm getting a persistent code from the trucks CEL for "service throttle valve controller" and another from the MM3 saying P0335:crankshaft position sensor performance. I'm still not sure about the throttle valve code but after researching the crankshaft position code the symptoms are almost identical to what my truck is doing. So I'll be ordering a new crankshaft position sensor and see if that fixes the starting issue. Then deal with the throttle valve. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
This is exactly what my truck is doing. This is a thread I found talking about the same problems. I don't want to direct anyone away from this forum but this artical is perfect for my situation.

Hmmm then I don't know.
Does anyone have a flash drive of tunes that have been verified that you can borrow?

If you flash it back to stock does this happen?

I have a couple buddies that have 2012's 2500's but those are 3rd gens and I don't know if that would work or not. I might check into that. Thanks.

If I flash it back to stock it wouldn't start for the last 6 days. But after installing the latest tune from Anarchy it will start about half the time. After a short drive and trying to clear the crankshaft position sensor code mentioned above, it's constantly giving me 2 codes 1 for the crankshaft and 1 for the throttle valve controller.
I posted a link to a separate thread above. It pretty describes my exact situation. Or just look up code P0335.

Hmm. Do toy have a pedal commander? Sounds alot like a tune problem. They've got something screwy somewhere.

Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
Does sound like symptoms of a crank sensor dropping signal. The throttle control is pretty common to see after a fresh flash for a cycle or two on some trucks. Check your crank sensor connection. Driver side at the balancer. Make sure your exhaust pressure sensor plug is fully seated and clicked in

Just for giggles. See if you can get an rpm reading when turning the truck over with like a scanner or something. I dont believe the mm3 will do it as it powers down when cranking. Ive seen a whole lot of coinsidences but it dont sound right. I know people have given you a whole lot of try to's so if ya dont wanna try it i feel ya. But what i would do is plug everything back up as stated. But then clear all the codes and start it. See what happens. Could be a case where something isnt right with the tunes. And its not seeing anything from the throttle valve so its throwing a crank position code to not allow the truck to start. Just a thought.
I didnt pay attention when i did my truck . Its also possible coolant landed just right on the crank sensor and it didnt like it LOL countless possibilities.

I'm willing to try anything and I am thankful for everyone's help! I'll try to figure out how to get an rpm reading while starting. I did try plugging everything back in but not sure if I cleared the codes before trying to start it. I'll try that again. I checked the connection for the crankshaft position sensor and it didn't have any coolant on it. My next steps are to reinstall the throttle valve and/or replace the crankshaft position sensor.

Re: Please help! Truck wont start after EGR and throttle valve deletes.
PROBLEM FIXED!!!
After finding and fixing my truck I now know exactly what happened. While removing the crossover egr tube I didn't realize that I had dropped one of the metal o-ring caskets. It apparently fell onto the teeth of harmonic balancer. After starting my truck it ran perfectly the first time but would not start again. I installed the new crankshaft position sensor and it fired up and is running perfectly! Thank the lord! I have spend a number of hours tracking this problem down but more importantly I want to think Caleb and the rest of the staff Anarchy Diesel for genuinely working hard to help me! They sent me 3 different custom tune packages and even pulled sensors off one of their personal trucks to mimic my issues. I also want to thank all of you on this forum for all the great ideas and suggestions! This is truly a valuable resource to have! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...be8647d279.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2dcc3e0731.jpg
